History of The Kells

Brian McCoy from Chicago and Eddie Cotter, Jnr. from Columbus, Ohio played Irish music together starting in 1994. They played in both Inisheer and The Gabriel Hounds together before forming The Kells in 2002. The official birthday of the band is St. Patrick’s Day!

Shortly after forming, vocalist and guitarist Kim Rattan joined Brian and Eddie. They enjoyed years of gigs and fellowship in this configuration. Recently, Eddie ended his time with The Kells to focus more on music and family in his Wisconsin locale. Pat Foley joined Brian and Kim to continue the fine Kells pursuit of Hardcore IrishTrad!

The band name was chosen through the inspiration of a group of Irish monks who long ago used their God given talents to illuminate the Gospels through their art on manuscript. They produced the beautiful Book of Kells.  The Kells Band hopes to do the same through their art and are grateful for the opportunities to share their love of God and Irish music with others.
